I undertake commissions to create original paintings specifically for private collectors, businesses and other clients.
Commissioned paintings are created in my established style and approach to painting. While the subject, concept, size, colour preferences or intended setting may be discussed with the client, the finished work remains an original artwork developed through my own artistic process.
A commission may begin with your ideas, subject matter, photographs or a particular space in which the work will be displayed. We will discuss these before work begins, so that there is a clear understanding of the project while allowing the painting to develop naturally within my practice.
The Commission Process
1. Initial enquiry
Please contact me with an outline of what you have in mind. It is helpful to include the subject or concept, approximate size, preferred medium, intended location and any reference images you may have.
2. Proposal and quotation
Following our discussion, I will provide a proposal outlining the artwork, dimensions, medium, estimated completion time and price. Where appropriate, preliminary sketches or other visual references may be discussed at this stage.
3. Commission agreement
Once the proposal has been accepted, the commission will be confirmed by a written agreement. This sets out the agreed specifications, price, payment schedule, estimated completion date, delivery arrangements and any other relevant conditions.
The agreement also recognises that the painting will be created in my own artistic style and manner of working. Reference material supplied by the client is used as part of the creative process and does not require a literal reproduction.
4. Payment
A deposit is required before work begins, with the balance payable on completion and before delivery or collection. The exact payment schedule will be specified in the commission agreement.
5. Time of execution
The time required varies according to the size, complexity and medium of the painting. An estimated completion period will be agreed before the commission begins. Please allow sufficient time for drying, finishing and any necessary varnishing before delivery.
Because each painting is individually made, completion dates are estimates rather than guaranteed deadlines. I will, however, keep you informed of significant developments or any circumstances that may affect the agreed schedule.
The Finished Painting
The completed work will be an original painting created in my artistic style, specifically for the commissioner.
The purpose of a commission is not simply to reproduce a photograph or execute a predetermined design, but to interpret the agreed subject through my own visual language, techniques and artistic sensibility. Consequently, the final painting may differ from preliminary sketches, photographs or other reference material.
This creative interpretation is an essential part of commissioning an original artwork.
Any framing, shipping, installation or other additional services will be discussed and quoted separately where applicable.
